In July 2022, I asked a Fireplace shop (won't mention names), from whom I had purchased my TST 049 wood stove in 2015, to service it. They charged me R1475 and offered to source a new log retainer and rear firebrick, reporting that it would be dangerous to operate the stove without the latter. Eight months later, however, that fireplace shop had still failed to obtain either item, despite repeated reminders. I turned to other suppliers, who informed me that my stove model had been discontinued and that it was difficult to obtain spares. Fortunately, I was then referred to Dayaan Baron from Hi-Flame Installations. Within nine days, he had 'made a plan', and had installed a rear firebrick and a coal catch, so that my stove was once again safe and fully functional, for a total cost of R1835. His efficiency, ingenuity, and resourcefulness stood in stark contrast to the poor treatment I had received from the previous fireplace shop.
